A top-10 AmLaw firm is seeking a talented Associate Attorney to join its National Security & Global Trade practice in Washington, D.C(link removed) T his is an excellent opportunity to work on sophisticated, high-impact matters involving U.S. customs, import compliance, and global trade regulations. The role offers exposure to complex cross-border issues and collaboration with a dynamic, growth-oriented team advising multinational clients.






Candidate Profile



  • JD from a top-tier law school with an excellent academic record

  • Active Bar Admission in Washington, D.C., in good standing

  • 4-6 years of substantive experience in national security and global trade, with a strong focus on customs and import compliance


  • Background advising on U.S. customs laws, including classification, valuation, country of origin, marking, and trade preference programs


  • Experience representing clients before U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), including rulings, audits, protests, and enforcement matters


  • Familiarity with litigation before the Court of International Trade is a plus


  • Prior experience at an AmLaw firm, boutique trade firm, government agency, or in-house environment preferred


  • Strong drafting, analytical, and communication skills with attention to detail


  • Ability to manage multiple matters in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment





Key Responsibilities





  • Advise clients on U.S. customs laws and import compliance requirements, including classification, valuation, and origin determinations


  • Counsel on supply chain optimization strategies and tariff mitigation planning


  • Represent clients in proceedings before CBP, including audits, prior disclosures, and enforcement actions


  • Support litigation of customs matters before the Court of International Trade


  • Draft memoranda, regulatory submissions, compliance policies, and client alerts


  • Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas and contribute to business development and thought leadership initiatives

Compensation & Benefits



  • Competitive Compensation: Annual base salary is expected to range from $310,000 $390,000, depending on experience, qualifications, and market factors
