Job Description

Responsible for making decisions and authorizing actions regarding Financial Aid awards, Federal, State, local, and other funding source expenditures on sponsored projects. Provides oversight/audit, analysis, accounting, and financial reporting, related to ensuring compliance in accordance with agency terms and conditions and related overhead agreements. Specific tasks and responsibilities:

Utilize MSU Denvers Enterprise Resource Planning (Workday) system to ensure accurate and timely processing of transactions, review Receivable and Payable balances, and ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
Analyze and reconcile grants and other restricted program funds to maintain financial integrity and ensure all costs are allowable, and reasonable as per federal, state, and sponsor regulations.
Coordinate, participate in, and oversee the SPAC (Sponsored Projects Accounting and Compliance) team in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close process; reconciling award expenditures and credits, creating adjusting entries, cumulative fringe charge adjustment entries, subsidized direct loan and unsubsidized direct loan accrual and reversals, confirm payroll grant transactions, review outstanding accounts receivable balances, complete related financial exhibits and schedules.
Manage and coordinate time and effort approvals for personnel/employee time charged to departments and restricted funds (grants). Summarize and allocate loaded personnel costs in the general ledger based on project and grant. Perform grant allocations in compliance with Federal Regulations and award terms.
Prepare quarterly grant financial report for financial statements, financial grant summary reports, schedules, special financial analyses, and reconciliations on project funding and expense, for Principal Investigators and other financial stakeholders. Including agency knowledge and providing quarterly check-ins with a variety of programmatic and financial stakeholders both internally and with sponsor agencies.
Identify operational inefficiencies and provide actionable solutions, assist in developing written materials for implementation and training on new processes with the goal of increasing efficiency and user experience.
Create and assist in the setup of new Grant Funds. Manage designated grants and contracts through all stages, including spending, reporting, and closeout. Ensure alignment with the funds management process and support the Financial Aid award lifecycle.
Leverage advanced data analysis tools to evaluate and forecast post-award performance of research grants. Develop projections of future reporting obligations and provide actionable financial insights. Collaborate closely with Principal Investigators (PIs) to ensure adherence to grant compliance requirements and promote the strategic, efficient use of awarded funds.

Education and Experience Requirements

Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or a directly related field.

Experience Requirements: 24 months (2 years) of experience as a Sponsored Projects Financial Analyst, Grants and Contracts Accountant, Compliance Monitor, or closely related occupation.

Other Special Skills or Requirements: Position also requires:

Professional experience in financial data reconciliation and analysis.
Experience in overseeing and validating process documents, substantiating internal process controls, and preparing financial reports for audits to ensure compliance with financial reporting per the established fiscal rules and regulations.
Demonstrated experience in preparing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and supporting process documents for financial and administrative operations.
Advanced proficiency in data analysis and visualization using Excel (including pivot tables, scenario analysis, and FORECAST functions), with additional experience in using R, and Tableau; proficiency demonstrated through completion of a professional certification in data analytics (e.g., Google Data Analytics or equivalent).
Offered salary range: $62,000 to $68,000 per year. A wide array of benefits options is offered to current and potential employees.
