Our client is a respected industry leader specializing in the planning and management of master-planned communities, single-family developments, condominiums, active adult communities, urban high-rise and mid-rise properties, as well as consulting services across accounting, marketing, and operational disciplines.
They are seeking an accomplished Director of Accounting to join their leadership team and play a pivotal role in driving financial excellence, operational efficiency, and organizational growth.
This is more than a traditional accounting leadership position. It is an opportunity to partner directly with executive leadership, influence strategic initiatives, lead large-scale process improvements, and develop a high-performing accounting organization.
Position Overview
Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Financial Operations, the Director of Accounting will oversee a dynamic accounting function, directly managing two Controllers and providing leadership to a team of approximately 20 accounting professionals.
The successful candidate will combine strong technical accounting expertise with exceptional leadership skills, bringing a strategic mindset and a passion for continuous improvement.
Key Leadership Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing accounting organization
- Partner with executive leadership on strategic initiatives and operational improvements
- Drive accountability, efficiency, and best practices across the accounting function
- Enhance reporting capabilities through analytics, KPIs, and business intelligence tools
- Oversee monthly financial reporting, reviews, and multi-entity accounting operations
- Serve as a trusted technical accounting resource across the organization
- Lead efforts to strengthen internal controls, audit readiness, and compliance initiatives
- Support acquisition integration activities and ongoing organizational growth
- Champion technology enhancements, automation, and accounting system improvements
- Collaborate with operations, IT, training, and business development teams to support company objectives
- Develop future leaders through coaching, mentoring, and professional development
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance
- 5+ years of progressive accounting leadership experience
- Strong technical accounting and financial reporting background
- Experience leading and developing accounting teams in complex, high-volume environments
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including Power Query, pivot tables, macros, and large-scale data analysis
- CPA designation preferred
- Proven ability to improve processes, implement controls, and drive operational excellence

Compensation & Benefits
- Base Salary: $130,000 $155,000
- Annual Bonus: 10%
