How We Work At Pollak Tutors, we use a Socratic approach: the student does most of the talking, the tutor does most of the listening, and we teach through guided discussion. In a great tutoring session, the tutor doesn't talk at the student; instead, we ask the right questions until the students figure it out for themselves. When a student gets something wrong, we aren't afraid to say so, and then we use that moment to build deeper understanding. That takes confidence and skill. Our best tutors know how to be direct without being discouraging and how to hold a high standard while making a student feel capable of meeting it. We give realistic advice to students and families, and we've built our reputation on results and straight talk not on telling people what they want to hear. We're looking for an experienced SAT/ACT instructor to join our team, especially if you can teach all sections of these tests.
