Job Description

Cardiothoracic Surgery locum opportunity seeking an experienced Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to provide full-time coverage for an established cardiothoracic surgery program located in Washington.

Assignment Highlights:

• Start as soon as credentialed
• Assignment length: 6-9 months
• Full-time coverage
• Monday-Friday schedule with call responsibilities
• 1-2 weekdays and weekends on call
• Night call: 5:00 PM - 7:00 AM
• Epic EMR
• Adult patient population
• Opportunity to work alongside an experienced cardiothoracic surgery team

Practice Details:

• Hospital-based practice with limited clinic responsibilities
• Coverage needed due to retirement of a current APP
• Team includes 2 physicians and 4 APPs
• Support staff includes RN Navigators and Medical Assistants
• Average daily volumes:

  • 5-10 hospital patients
  • 0-3 admissions
  • 2-7 ICU patients
  • 1-2 surgeries per day

Responsibilities:

• First assist in cardiothoracic surgical procedures
• Round on hospitalized patients
• Manage acute care and ICU patients
• Provide clinic support as needed
• Participate in post-operative patient management
• Evaluate and manage acute volume and blood pressure issues
• Document patient care within Epic EMR
• Practice at full APP capacity across the continuum of care

Required Experience:

• Certified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant
• Active state license or ability to obtain during credentialing
• Clean malpractice and background history preferred
• Cardiothoracic surgery experience required
• Operating room experience required
• Acute care patient management experience
• ICU patient management experience

Required Procedures:

• General Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgery Open
• Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery (On Pump)
• Valvular Repair
• Valvular Replacement

Preferred Experience:

• Aneurysm Repair
• Thoracic procedures including lung resections
• Chest wall and pleural procedures
• LVAD management
• Ventilator management
• Central line placement

Additional Information:

• Local candidates are highly preferred
• Travel assistance may be considered based on facility guidelines
• Credentialing timeline is approximately 3+ months
