Summary:

The Accounting Manager is responsible for leading the accounting team in ensuring accuracy of financial statements, maintaining correct accounting records, and implementing accounting procedures. Manage the month end close process to prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements. Assist with implementing and managing the budget process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Generate and audit financial statements monthly, quarterly, and annually while adhering to the Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Lead and mentor accounting team including the delegation tasks and review of work for timeliness and accuracy. Provide staff with training and development tools to improve performance.
  • Oversee inventory data as it pertains to financials. Support inventory department for implementing, tracking, and analyzing cycle counts and full count physical inventories.
  • Process state sales tax and use returns on a monthly or quarterly basis. Reconcile sales tax general ledger accounts.
  • Assist with state registrations as needed.
  • Manage process of generating labor and overhead rates annually.
  • Assist controller with implementation and maintenance of budgets. Collaborate with other managers to understand budgeting processes and goals. Report on monthly budget variances.
  • Assist controller with process improvements and internal controls. Document procedures for accounting.
  • Coordinate with outside tax accountants at fiscal year-end.
  • Perform account reconciliations monthly.
  • Approve accounts payable cash outflow weekly.
  • Reconcile bank account monthly.
  • Oversee fixed asset and depreciation process.
  • Generate weekly general ledger payroll/benefits journal entries.
  • Document key performance indicators monthly.
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Supervisory Responsibilities:

Supervises accounting staff, which includes accounts receivable specialist, cost accountant, and accounting clerk. Train and mentor staff. Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must demonstrate thorough knowledge of accounting principles; have strong leadership qualities; demonstrate critical thinking skills; use ethical judgment; proactively solve problems.


Education and/or Experience:

Bachelor of Science degree in accounting; 2-5 years accounting experience. Supervisory experience is required. Cost accounting experience is preferred.


Language Skills:

Effective communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, professional correspondence, and memos.


Mathematical Skills:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, gross margin, financial ratios, proportions, and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to conduct detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.


Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have an elevated level of knowledge in Microsoft Office applications. Proficiency with enterprise resource planning (ERP) systems is necessary.
