Mission Alignment
The Middle School Coordinator supports the mission of Oaks Ministries by shepherding middle school students from under-resourced neighborhoods in downtown Augusta through relational ministry, discipleship, and engaging programming. This role is highly relational and presence-driven, requiring creativity, consistency, and a deep love for middle school students during a formative season of growth.
Key Responsibilities
Student Engagement & Presence
- Build meaningful, trusting relationships with middle school students through consistent presence in schools, neighborhoods, and families
- Regularly check in with students and parents to support academic, social, and spiritual growth
- Attend students' extracurricular activities (sports, performances, school events, etc.)
Program Leadership - Urban Leadership Project (ULP)
- Plan, lead, and implement weekly Middle School ULP gatherings on Tuesday nights
- Recruit, train, and support volunteers serving with middle school students
- Plan engaging activities, speakers, and teaching content aligned with Oaks' mission
- Create a safe, welcoming, and structured environment for students
Events & Experiences
- Plan and implement special events, outings, and fun experiences for middle school students throughout the year
- Plan and lead a Middle School Summer Camp experience, coordinating logistics, volunteers, and programming
Discipleship & Development
- Provide ongoing discipleship and spiritual leadership for middle school students
- Teach or prepare age-appropriate biblical lessons for ULP, camps, and other programming
Team Collaboration
- Work closely with the High School Coordinator to align vision, calendars, and shared events
- Participate in weekly staff meetings and monthly evaluations with Co-Directors
- Assist with "all hands on deck" ministry events (e.g., Trunk or Treat, Fundraising Dinner, etc.)
Skills & Qualifications
- Love for Jesus and His Word, with a desire to live a Christ-centered life
- Experience working with middle school students, preferably in an urban ministry context
- Highly relational; able to connect naturally with students and families
- Strong organizational and planning skills
- Flexible schedule (urban ministry is not a 9-5 job)
- Ability to recruit, lead, and support volunteers
- Commitment to Oaks Ministries' values and culture
