Position Overview:

As a Removal Defense Associate/Senior Associate Attorney at GFI, you will play a vital role in advocating for clients facing deportation/removal. This position requires managing complex removal defense cases, preparing legal filings, and zealously representing clients in Immigration Court. You will provide critical legal support, ensuring due process and upholding our firm's commitment to justice and client-centered advocacy.

Your responsibilities will include virtual and in-person court appearances before the Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR), legal research, client preparation, and case strategy development. Travel may be required for hearings as needed. This role offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, mission-driven environment dedicated to defending immigrant rights.

Key Responsibilities:

Represent clients in removal proceedings before the Immigration Court, on appeal to the Board of Immigration Appeals
Appear in court with clients via WebEx and/or in-person.
Be available to travel as needed for hearings in court.
Communicate with clients and prepare them for their upcoming hearings.
Support clients with their USCIS interviews, ERO visits, ISAP and ICE check ins
Prepare and manage various case filings, ensuring compliance with deadlines.
Review, edit, and prepare briefs, motions, applications, and case filings to EOIR.
Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to support case strategies and client needs.
Stay up to date with changes in immigration law, legal precedents, and recent policy or regulation changes.
Develop creative and strategic solutions to complex legal issues.
Collaborate with colleagues and support staff to enhance case outcomes and client experience.
Perform additional duties as assigned to support the firm's mission and commitment to high-quality legal representation.
Uphold the highest standards of professionalism, ethics, and client advocacy in all legal work.

Requirements and Skills:

Juris Doctor (JD) degree or Master of Laws (LLM) from an accredited law school.
Active Bar license in good standing in any U.S. state.
2-5 years of experience as a removal defense attorney, and experience representing clients in individual hearings.
Strong legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment and manage multiple cases efficiently.
Strong communication skills, with fluency in both English and Spanish (reading, writing, and speaking).
Proficiency in legal research tools, case management software, and general computer applications.
Reliable transportation for travel to hearings at the Miami Immigration Court.

Schedule:

Monday through Friday (with flexible hours, including availability on weekends and off-hours as needed).

Location:

In-person at Waterford Office, with Work From Home options available for up to 45 days per year.

Pay: $100,000.00 - $120,000.00 per year
