Job Summary
The Molding or Assembly Automation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and optimizing automation systems supporting molding or assembly operations. This includes robotic equipment, auxiliary automation devices, and production support systems. The technician plays a key role in ensuring reliable operation, minimizing downtime, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives in a high-volume medical device manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Troubleshooting
Diagnose and resolve issues with molding or assembly automation systems, including robots, conveyors, sensors, and vision systems.
Troubleshoot electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical equipment.
Respond to equipment alarms and faults in real time to minimize production downtime.
Collaborate with engineering and maintenance teams to identify and eliminate recurring issues.
Robot Programming & Optimization
Program and optimize industrial robots (e.g., Sepro, FANUC, Yushin, Wittmann) for part handling, degating, packaging, and assembly applications.
Modify robot paths and sequences to improve cycle times, efficiency, and product quality.
Maintain backups and documentation of robot programs and system configurations.
Preventive & Corrective Maintenance
Perform scheduled preventive maintenance on automation equipment.
Replace worn components and calibrate sensors, actuators, and other automation devices.
Maintain accurate maintenance records and equipment performance logs.
Process Support & Continuous Improvement
Support mold trials, production startups, and new product launches by setting up and validating automation sequences.
Recommend and implement improvements to automation layouts, processes, and workflows.
Participate in Kaizen events and Lean Manufacturing initiatives to improve productivity and reduce waste.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure automation equipment operates safely and in compliance with company standards.
Maintain compliance with ISO, FDA, GMP, and other applicable regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Education
High School Diploma or GED required.
Technical certification or Associate's degree in Mechatronics, Robotics, Industrial Automation, or a related field preferred.
Experience
2 5 years of experience in injection molding, assembly automation, or a related manufacturing environment.
Hands-on experience programming, troubleshooting, and maintaining industrial robots.
Skills
Strong understanding of PLCs, HMIs, industrial sensors, and automation systems.
Ability to read and interpret electrical and mechanical schematics.
Familiarity with EOAT (End-of-Arm Tooling) design, setup, and maintenance.
Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and communication skills.
