Job Description: The Westchester County Law Department is actively seeking a recent law school graduate or early-career attorney to join its Appeals, Opinion, and Legislation Bureau. Attorneys in this role handle complex civil issues, including a broad range of appellate matters, researching and drafting legislation, and providing legal advice and guidance on a variety of issues affecting the operation of county government.

Responsibilities Include but are Not Limited to:

Handle civil appellate matters, including drafting briefs and motions, and arguing cases before appellate courts
Research and draft legislation to be considered by the County Board of Legislators; appear before the Board to provide advice and guidance on legislation
Research legal issues related to constitutional law, state, county, and municipal law
Meet with County personnel to identify and analyze legal problems and issues related to the operation of the County
Provide well-reasoned, thorough legal opinions and guidance on all legal matters affecting the County
Assist County clients to ensure compliance with federal, state, county, and local codes, laws, rules, guidelines, and regulations

Required Qualifications:
The successful candidates must have graduated from a school of law with an LLB or JD degree and be admitted to the New York State Bar. Appellate or moot court experience preferred.
Must be able to work collaboratively with County Attorney staff, other attorneys, and other County agencies in a fast paced and demanding environment. This is a research and writing-focused position.
