Position Summary

New Tech Metals is seeking an experienced Advanced Welder / Fabricator to join our manufacturing team. This position is responsible for producing complex, high-quality welded assemblies from a wide range of materials using multiple welding processes.

The successful candidate will have advanced hands-on experience with MIG, TIG, Spray-Arc, and Flux-Core welding and be comfortable working with mild steel, T-1/high-strength steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and food-grade stainless steel.

This position requires a high level of technical skill, attention to detail, and independent judgment. The Advanced Welder / Fabricator must be able to interpret detailed drawings and welding requirements, determine appropriate welding processes and parameters, properly fit and fixture components, and produce weldments that meet dimensional, structural, cosmetic, and customer-specific requirements.

The ideal candidate takes pride in their workmanship, understands that quality begins with proper fit-up and preparation, and can troubleshoot welding and fabrication challenges with minimal supervision.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Perform advanced welding and fabrication of complex components, frames, assemblies, and finished products.
  • Perform MIG, TIG, Spray-Arc, and Flux-Core welding on a variety of materials and thicknesses.
  • Weld and fabricate:
      • Mild steel
      • T-1 and other high-strength steels
      • Stainless steel
      • Aluminum
      • Food-grade stainless steel
  • Select appropriate welding processes, filler metals, shielding gases, techniques, and parameters based on material, thickness, joint configuration, and application.
  • Set up and operate welding machines and associated equipment to produce consistent, high-quality welds.
  • Read and interpret detailed blueprints, fabrication drawings, weld symbols, GD&T where applicable, specifications, and work instructions.
  • Interpret and follow welding symbols, joint designs, dimensions, tolerances, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Determine proper weld sequence and fabrication techniques to minimize distortion and maintain dimensional accuracy.
  • Perform accurate component layout, fit-up, alignment, and fixturing prior to welding.
  • Fabricate assemblies with appropriate tack welding, clamping, fixturing, and weld sequencing techniques.
  • Recognize and correct problems involving fit-up, distortion, porosity, undercut, lack of fusion, excessive penetration, cracking, contamination, and other weld defects.
  • Perform weld repairs and rework as required while maintaining the integrity and appearance of the finished assembly.
  • Weld to structural, dimensional, cosmetic, and customer-specific requirements.
  • Perform grinding, blending, deburring, cutting, drilling, and other fabrication operations as necessary.
  • Finish and blend stainless steel and food-grade stainless-steel weldments to required cosmetic and surface-finish specifications.
  • Maintain proper cleanliness and contamination control when welding stainless steel and aluminum.
  • Inspect work throughout the fabrication process to ensure compliance with drawings and specifications.
  • Use precision measuring equipment and inspection tools to verify dimensions and alignment.
  • Identify quality issues before they progress to subsequent manufacturing operations.
  • Assist in troubleshooting difficult fabrication and welding problems.
  • Provide technical guidance and assistance to less-experienced welders and fabricators when needed.
  • Maintain welding equipment, tooling, fixtures, and work areas in safe and proper operating condition.
  • Follow all applicable safety procedures, work instructions, quality requirements, and company policies.
  • Maintain accurate production and quality records as required.
  • Work closely with engineering, quality, production, and other team members to resolve manufacturing issues and improve processes.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, efficiency, safety, and productivity.
  • Maintain an environment of professionalism, respect, human dignity, and ethical behavior with coworkers, customers, suppliers, and the communities we serve.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
