International Sports Institute (ISI) Academy is seeking an engaging and experienced Part-Time Humanities & English Teacher to provide high-quality instruction to student-athletes in grades 9-11.
The Humanities & English Teacher will provide instruction in English language arts, literature, writing, history, social sciences, and related humanities subjects based on student and curriculum needs. The position requires an educator who can help students become stronger readers, writers, communicators, and critical thinkers while creating meaningful connections across literature, history, culture, and contemporary issues.
The position is scheduled from 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, making it particularly well suited for a collegiate adjunct professor, partially retired teacher or professor, doctoral candidate in education or the humanities, or an educator teaching evening courses at a college or community college.Key Responsibilities
Provide engaging and academically rigorous English and humanities instruction for students in grades 9-11.
Teach courses based on student needs that may include English Language Arts, Literature, Composition, World History, U.S. History, Government, Economics, and other humanities-related subjects.
Develop students' analytical reading, academic writing, research, communication, and critical-thinking skills.
Teach the writing process, including planning, drafting, revising, editing, and presenting written work.
Help students develop effective argumentative, analytical, expository, research, and creative writing skills.
Introduce students to significant works of literature and encourage thoughtful analysis and discussion.
Connect literature and writing instruction with historical, cultural, social, and contemporary topics.
Develop lesson plans aligned with ISI Academy curriculum requirements and appropriate academic standards.
Differentiate instruction based on individual student abilities and learning needs.
Develop assignments, essays, research projects, presentations, quizzes, examinations, and other assessments.
Monitor student academic progress and maintain accurate grades and records.
Provide individualized academic support and feedback to students.
Support students who miss classroom time because of athletic competitions, travel, or other approved academy activities.
Collaborate with ISI teachers, coaches, administrators, and academic support staff regarding student progress.
Participate in parent conferences, faculty meetings, and student progress discussions as required.
Maintain a classroom culture emphasizing intellectual curiosity, respectful discussion, accountability, academic integrity, and independent thinking.
ISI Student-Athlete Environment
ISI Academy provides an educational model specifically designed for serious student-athletes pursuing high-level athletic and academic goals.
Teachers must understand the scheduling and performance demands placed on student-athletes and be able to combine academic rigor with appropriate flexibility. Students are expected to meet ISI academic standards while learning how to manage the responsibilities associated with academics, training, competition, travel, and personal development.
The Humanities & English Teacher will play an important role in helping students develop the communication, analytical, and critical-thinking skills that will prepare them for college and life beyond competitive athletics.Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in English, Literature, History, Humanities, Social Sciences, Education, or a related discipline required.
Master's degree or advanced graduate study preferred.
Strong knowledge of high school-level English, writing, literature, history, and/or social sciences.
Prior high school, college, university, tutoring, or other instructional experience preferred.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to teach analytical and academic writing.
Ability to engage students in discussion, debate, research, and project-based learning.
Strong organizational and classroom-management skills.
Ability to work effectively in a small-school, collaborative environment.
Commitment to mentoring and supporting student-athletes academically and personally.
