Job Description

Davis School District is seeking Elementary Dual Language Immersion Teachers Chinese, French, or Spanish in Kaysville, Utah. DUTIES: Responsible for creating a positive learning environment in an elementary school setting (grades 1-6) where students develop the skills to become critical thinkers, problem solvers, lifelong learners and productive citizens. Also responsible for planning, organizing, and implementing an appropriate instructional program in an elementary school learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their academic potential. Instruct students in the Target Language of Instruction (Chinese, French, or Spanish) by listening, speaking, and writing with students in that language. Essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to, the following: (1) Deliver instruction in the Target Language of Instruction at an Advanced-Mid or higher proficiency level as verified by an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) or OPIc administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) to cultivate students' language proficiency, cultural competence, and mastery of the Utah State Board of Education (USBE) Core Curriculum. Integrate approved learning activities and employ diverse, research-based strategies, including those prescribed by the Utah Dual Language Immersion model 70% ; (2) Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests 10% ; (3) Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among students 5% ; (4) Meet with parents and guardians to discuss their children's progress and to determine priorities for their children and their resource needs 5% ; (5) Observe and evaluate students' performance, behavior, social development, and physical health 5% ; (6) As needed, assist and collaborate with the District and/or USBE with evaluating and refining existing instructional materials and curriculum and designing and evaluating standards-aligned curriculum in related subject areas, ensuring alignment with USBE educational frameworks and District-mandated learning objectives 2% ; and (7) Perform such other related duties and responsibilities as assigned 3% . Note: The work can be performed at any of the elementary schools in the Davis School District, all of which are located in various cities and towns in Davis County, Utah. REQUIREMENTS: Education: Bachelor's degree in the Target Language of Instruction (Chinese, French, or Spanish), or a closely related field. A foreign equivalent is acceptable. License: Educator license issued by the USBE; or, within 90 days of the date of hire, will be eligible to obtain said license; or has met all the requirements for and has been enrolled in the District's Educator Licensing APPEL Program. Foreign Language Proficiency: Target Language of Instruction (Chinese, French, or Spanish) language proficiency is required. Other Requirements: (1) An educator endorsement for World Languages in the Target Language of Instruction issued by the USBE; or, within 90 days of the date of hire, will be eligible to obtain said endorsement; or has met all the requirements for and has been enrolled in the District's Educator Licensing APPEL Program; (2) An educator endorsement in Dual Language Immersion issued by the USBE; or, within 90 days of the date of hire, will be eligible to obtain said endorsement; or has met all the requirements for and has been enrolled in the District's Educator Licensing APPEL Program; (3) If the required endorsements are not yet obtained, has received an OPI or OPIc score of Advanced-Mid or higher for the Target Language of Instruction as administered by the ACTFL; or has received a post-secondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where the Target Language of Instruction is the primary language; (4) If the required endorsements are not yet obtained, has received an OPI score of Advanced-Mid or higher for English as administered by the ACTFL; or has received a postsecondary degree from an institution of higher education located in a country where English is the primary language; (5) Demonstrated ability to promote and facilitate active language learning environment using the Target Language of Instruction; and (6) Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain a positive learning environment and handle classroom management issues in a calm manner.
