Job DescriptionJob Description Service Technician - Lighting & Electrical
Ducros Electrical Contracting & Design, Inc. (DEC) is looking for an experienced
Electrical Service Technician who is highly skilled in troubleshooting, electrical diagnostics, lighting systems, and customer service.
This is
not simply an installation position. Our Service Technicians are the face of DEC in the field and are expected to have the experience and judgment to independently diagnose problems, determine the best solution, communicate that solution to the customer, and complete the work safely and professionally.
We're looking for someone who takes pride in being a
problem solver and a trusted service professional.
What We're Looking For:
The ideal candidate is an experienced electrician who is comfortable being the person called when
something isn't working and nobody knows why.
You should be able to walk into a commercial or industrial facility, evaluate the situation, troubleshoot the electrical system systematically, identify the root cause, and make the necessary repairs without relying on someone else to tell you what to do.
Just as important, you must be comfortable working directly with customers. You'll regularly interact with property managers, facility managers, maintenance personnel, business owners, and other representatives.
How you communicate and represent DEC is just as important as the quality of your electrical work. Key Responsibilities
- Perform advanced troubleshooting, diagnostics, repair, and maintenance of commercial and industrial electrical systems.
- Diagnose electrical problems from the symptom to the root cause, rather than simply replacing components until the problem goes away.
- Troubleshoot lighting systems, lighting controls, photocells, occupancy sensors, timers, contactors, relays, dimming systems, and computerized lighting controls.
- Troubleshoot motor controls, pumps, pump stations, programmable controllers, control circuits, and related electrical equipment.
- Troubleshoot electrical circuits, breakers, disconnects, transformers, contactors, relays, switches, motors, and other electrical equipment.
- Perform voltage, amperage, continuity, resistance, and other electrical testing using appropriate diagnostic equipment.
- Read and interpret electrical drawings, blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, control diagrams, and equipment documentation.
- Install, repair, modify, and maintain commercial lighting systems, parking lot lighting, exterior lighting, building electrical systems, and electrical equipment.
- Perform electrical testing and preventive maintenance as required.
- Identify failed or defective components and determine the appropriate repair or replacement.
- Research and identify replacement parts and materials needed to complete service calls.
- Prepare accurate descriptions of work performed, materials used, and additional repairs recommended.
- Communicate repair options and recommendations clearly and professionally to customers.
- Identify additional electrical or maintenance issues when appropriate and communicate those findings to the customer and office.
- Respond professionally to scheduled service calls and emergency service situations.
- Work independently while maintaining communication with dispatch, management, and customers.
- Safely perform work from ladders, scaffolding, rooftops, and bucket trucks up to 50 feet.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and professional work vehicle and jobsite.
- Follow all company safety procedures, OSHA requirements, electrical codes, and applicable local regulations.
Customer Service Is a Major Part of This Position
At DEC,
technical ability alone isn't enough.
Our Service Technicians are dealing directly with customers every day. We need someone who understands that the customer isn't necessarily interested in the technical details-they want their problem understood, explained, and resolved.
You must be able to:
- Listen carefully and understand what the customer is experiencing.
- Explain electrical problems in a way the customer can understand.
- Remain calm and professional when dealing with frustrated customers.
- Clearly explain what needs to be repaired and why.
- Provide honest recommendations without creating unnecessary work.
- Set realistic expectations regarding repairs, parts, scheduling, and completion.
- Maintain a professional appearance and attitude while representing DEC.
- Build customer confidence through knowledge, communication, and follow-through.
- Recognize opportunities to provide additional value to the customer without using high-pressure sales tactics.
We want customers to feel confident that when a DEC Service Technician arrives, their problem is in good hands. Qualifications & Experience
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on electrical service experience strongly preferred.
- Proven experience troubleshooting commercial electrical systems.
- Strong understanding of electrical theory and the ability to use that knowledge during troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to independently diagnose electrical problems and determine corrective action.
- Experience with commercial lighting systems and lighting controls.
- Experience with motor controls, relays, contactors, transformers, control circuits, and programmable controllers.
- Ability to read and understand electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Strong knowledge of electrical testing equipment and proper diagnostic procedures.
- Commercial and industrial service experience strongly preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Exceptional customer-service skills and professional demeanor.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Dependable, punctual, and able to manage service calls independently.
- Must be comfortable working in a fast-paced service environment where priorities can change throughout the day.
- Ability to work from ladders, rooftops, scaffolding, and bucket trucks up to 50 feet.
- Valid California driver's license with a good driving record.
- CSLT Certification is a plus.
- Candidates living in or near Downey, Long Beach, Carson, or South Los Angeles are preferred.
The Right Person for This Position
We're looking for someone who can say:
"Give me the problem. I'll figure it out." You don't need to know every answer when you arrive at a service call. You
do need to know how to troubleshoot, where to start, what measurements to take, how to interpret the results, and how to methodically work your way to the solution.
We're looking for an electrician who takes ownership of the service call from
arrival diagnosis explanation repair testing completion.
If you're an experienced electrician who enjoys troubleshooting, takes pride in your workmanship, communicates well with customers, and likes being the person who solves difficult electrical problems, we'd like to hear from you.
What We Offer
- Stable, long-term employment with an established electrical contractor
- Competitive compensation based on experience and qualifications
- Company vehicle and gas card provided for Field Service Technicians
- Career advancement opportunities for high performers
- Opportunity to work on a wide variety of commercial and industrial electrical systems
- A position where your electrical knowledge, troubleshooting ability, and customer-service skills are valued
