Core responsibilities
- Surface preparation: Sanding to remove old paint, rust, and imperfections; applying and sanding body fillers for dents and scratches
- Masking and cleaning: Taping over areas not to be painted (windows, trim, lights) and degreasing surfaces to ensure paint adhesion
- Priming and sealing: Applying primers and sealers as needed to create a smooth, even base for the paint job
- Quality inspection: Checking surfaces for consistency and flaws before the painting team works on them
- Tool maintenance: Keeping prep tools and equipment clean and in good working order
- Safety compliance: Following protocols for handling chemicals and using personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Team collaboration: Working closely with painters and other technicians to maintain workflow and meet deadlines
