Position Summary:

Facilitates the development and modification of plumbing products from conceptual design through the product life cycle. Monitors vendors and product development progress to support established delivery objectives.

Essential Functions:

  • Design and develop new products incorporating market research, competitive research, and industry trends while adhering to applicable codes, standards, quality requirements, and cost targets for domestic and global products.
  • Review product and component designs for ease of assembly and manufacturability; identify potential design or production concerns and recommend improvements as appropriate.
  • Evaluate and test prototypes and first-article samples to verify product quality and performance; analyze results and recommend design or product modifications as necessary.
  • Facilitate engineering changes to existing products to address market needs, enhance product quality or performance, resolve identified issues, and improve cost.
  • Prepare, review, interpret, and maintain technical drawings in accordance with established drafting standards and engineering requirements.
  • Partner with Quality and Manufacturing teams to investigate and resolve product inspection and production issues and recommend appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Manage the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), including coordinating applicable documentation, samples, testing, and approvals to support production readiness.
  • Evaluate the technical and manufacturing capabilities of potential vendors and coordinate with approved suppliers regarding manufacturing requirements and the production and delivery of components and finished products.
  • Create, review, and maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) for new and existing products throughout the product development and change process.
  • Compile and present product development progress, technical information, test results, and other relevant details in accordance with the established Design Review process.
  • Provide engineering support for product documentation and support materials, including packaging, installation and owner manuals, spare-parts sheets, and specification sheets, to help ensure technical accuracy and consistency.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Proficiency with 3D CAD software; experience with SolidWorks and/or AutoCAD preferred.
  • Basic working knowledge of manufacturing processes, including machining, casting, and forging.
  • Proficiency in Japanese, Chinese, or Vietnamese is strongly preferred.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Mechanical Engineering or Ceramic Engineering
  • 3 - 5 years of relevant engineering experience
  • Alternatively, a combination of college-level coursework, substantial relevant engineering experience, and proficiency in Japanese, Chinese, or Vietnamese may be considered in lieu of a bachelor's degree.

Work Environment & Travel:

  • Combination of office, engineering/testing, and manufacturing environments.
  • Position may require exposure to manufacturing areas with moving equipment, noise, dust, and other conditions associated with production operations.
  • Occasional travel may be required to supplier, vendor, manufacturing, or other business locations.

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working at a computer, including use of engineering and CAD software.
  • Ability to stand and walk for periods of time while working in manufacturing, testing, or supplier environments.
  • Ability to use hands and fingers to handle, inspect, and evaluate product components, prototypes, samples, and testing materials.
  • Ability to lift, carry, and move product samples, components, and testing materials as needed.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to review technical drawings, inspect product components and samples, and perform computer-based engineering work.
