Job Description

The Workforce Planning (WFP) organization is part of the Consumer and Community (CCB) Operations division. The WFP Data Science organization delivers quantitatively driven solutions to support core WFP functions such as demand forecasting, capacity planning, resource scheduling, and business analysis & support. It supports Chase’s call centers, back office, and approximately 5,200 retail branches.

As a Data Scientist Lead – WFP Machine Learning Scientist, you will engage in complex, data‑intensive projects that have significant business impact. You will assess unstructured problems, develop practical problem‑solving strategies, analyze topics, and present solution proposals with recommendations and next‑step plans to management for prioritization, timing, and delivery. The AI/ML team builds next‑generation data science solutions aimed at real‑time inference and decision‑making.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and develop machine learning, artificial intelligence, and statistical models.
  • Participate in the full model development lifecycle, from problem framing to documentation and independent model review.
  • Lead AI/ML projects while mentoring and coaching junior team members.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to understand business requirements and define solution objectives.
  • Identify and select appropriate methods to solve problems while staying updated on the latest AI/ML research.
  • Ensure robustness of data science solutions.
  • Develop and communicate recommendations and data science solutions in an easy‑to‑understand manner, leveraging data to tell a story.
  • Lead and persuade others while positively influencing outcomes, framing business problems into technical solutions that are feasible.

Required Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Master’s degree with 5+ years of experience or PhD with 3+ years, operating as a data science professional in a quantitative field such as statistics, analytics, data science, engineering, operations research, economics, mathematics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and related disciplines.
  • 2+ years of experience leading AI/ML projects with multiple team members.
  • Hands‑on experience developing statistical models, machine learning models, and/or artificial intelligence models.
  • Deep understanding of the mathematics and theory behind AI/ML algorithms.
  • Proficiency in data science programming languages such as Python, R or Scala.
  • Experience with big‑data technologies such as Hadoop, Spark, SparkML, and familiarity with SQL, Hive, and similar data table operations.
  • Demonstrated relationship‑building skills with a superior ability to make things happen through positive influence.

Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills

  • Advanced expertise with time series and operations research techniques.
  • Natural language processing (NLP), natural language generation (NLG), neural nets, or other machine‑learning/AI skills.
  • Prior experience with public cloud technologies such as Amazon Web Services (AWS), Azure, or Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
  • Previous experience leading highly complex cross‑functional technical projects with multiple stakeholders.

This position is full‑time in office Monday‑Friday. It is not hybrid nor remote.
