About the Role:
As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Absorb, you’ll play a key role in optimizing the reliability, scalability, and performance of our cloud-based (SaaS) Learning Management System.
You’ll partner closely with product development and operations teams to ensure our platform delivers a rich feature set, high availability, and a seamless experience for our customers.
This role is intentionally scoped for Senior to Staff level engineers. We’re looking for someone who not only executes at a high level, but can also guide others, influence systems at scale, and proactively improve how we operate.
What you'll do:
Own and operate the production environment, maintaining a holistic view of system health, availability, and performance
Design, build, and maintain infrastructure and platform systems using automation-first principles
Proactively create monitors and observability strategies (e.g., Sumo Logic, New Relic, Prometheus) to prevent issues before they occur
Apply AI tools (Claude, Cursor) to enhance infrastructure operations, including debugging, monitoring, and performance optimization at the system level
Measure, analyze, and optimize system performance to continuously improve uptime and user experience
Provide operational support for large, distributed systems, including participation in on-call and incident response
Diagnose and resolve complex production issues, and mentor others in debugging and troubleshooting approaches
Partner with engineering teams to improve reliability through testing, release processes, and system design
Contribute to and influence system architecture, ensuring scalability, resilience, and long-term maintainability
Participate in capacity planning, platform management, and infrastructure roadmap discussions
Drive automation and continuous improvement across infrastructure and deployment workflows
Balance speed and reliability through clear service level objectives (SLOs)
What you’ll bring
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field (or equivalent experience)
7+ years in software development, IT, or similar
4+ years in DevOps, SRE, or cloud engineering roles
Strong experience with AWS (Solutions Architect certification is a plus)
Hands-on experience with:
Infrastructure as Code (AWS CDK, CloudFormation)
CI/CD systems and deployment pipelines
Monitoring, observability, and performance tuning
Scripting experience (PowerShell preferred)
Experience supporting and optimizing web applications at scale
Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance urgency and thoughtful execution
Ability to work cross-functionally across teams and time zones
Experience with AI tools (e.g., Claude)
Preferred experience
Windows systems expertise
Containerization (Docker, ECS, Kubernetes)
CI/CD tooling (Git Lab, Bamboo or similar)
Familiarity with .NET / C# ecosystem
Experience working in AWS or Google/Azure environments
