OVERVIEW
The Shelter Island Heights Property Owners Corporation (SIHPOC) in Shelter Island, New York, operates much like a small municipality, providing drinking water, wastewater treatment, public works, and recreation services to our community.
We are seeking a motivated, dependable, mechanically inclined individual to join our Utilities and Public Works team. No previous water or wastewater experience is required. SIHPOC will provide and pay for the training needed to obtain New York State water and wastewater operator certifications. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT AND CAREER ADVANCEMENT
Water or wastewater experience is not required. SIHPOC invests in its employees and will provide and pay for the training necessary to obtain; 1) New York State Class C Water Operator License, and 2) New York State 2A Wastewater Operator License. Continuous employment provisional on obtaining both certifications.
Typically, after approximately one year of facilities experience, employees begin training for their water operator license. After gaining experience and certification in water operations, they can advance to wastewater operator training. These state certifications, supported by continuing education, provide valuable professional credentials and a pathway to a long-term career in utilities and public works.

SCHEDULE
This is a full-time, year-round position. Once the required water and wastewater licenses are obtained, employees participate in a rotating weekend on-call schedule. Overtime opportunities are available for emergencies, seasonal work, and scheduled weekend coverage.
